I did get an A+ fic! And a couple of short notes from my recipients saying they liked and would comment more later. I was actually less worried about the pinch-hit. That one was:

for someone who has liked my earlier work
with a prompt that immediately started generating ideas on how to fill it
So, that one wasn't a real worry, so much as a 'I think she'll like this. I hope I'm right'.
But the original assignment was for a series of books I loved as a kid but haven't really written much fic for. (One fic. For a different exchange. About five years ago.) I didn't really know what I was going to write until I started rereading the canon. Somewhere around Book III (of a quintet), things started to crystallize, but it took a bit of time to get there.
